Using Financy
Everything Financy does, in the order you are likely to need it.
Getting started
Create an account at financy.zewify.com with your email address and a password of at least eight characters. You are signed straight in.
Three spending categories are waiting for you (Food, Utility and Bills). Add your accounts next, then your regular bills and paydays; a month of those is enough for the calendar to start telling you something.
Your accounts
Open Accounts and choose Add account. An account is a bank account, an e-wallet, cash or a credit card, with the balance it held on the day you start tracking it.
Your first bank, e-wallet or cash account becomes the default; a credit card never can. Anything you add without choosing an account counts against the default, so the total at the top always equals the sum of your accounts.
Each account shows two figures: what it holds now, from everything you have marked paid or received, and what it will hold at the end of the month once everything scheduled has happened.
Bills, income and transfers
Press + to add something. Choose what it is:
- Spending is money going out: a bill, a purchase, a subscription.
- Income is money coming in, like a salary.
- Transfer moves money between two of your own accounts. It never counts as spending.
Repeating
Set it to repeat daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, and give it an end date or a number of payments if it stops. A twelve-month installment plan is a monthly item with twelve payments.
Something due on the 31st falls on the last day of shorter months and returns to the 31st when the month has one. A yearly item on 29 February does the same.
Changing one that repeats
When you edit or move a repeating item, Financy asks whether the change is for this one only, this one and the ones after it, or all of them.
Marking things paid
Open an item on the calendar or in the list and choose Mark as paid. Income is marked received and transfers transferred.
Each month of a repeating item is marked on its own, so paying September’s rent says nothing about October’s. A bill whose date has passed without being marked paid shows as overdue.
Only marked items move an account’s current balance; unmarked ones count toward what it will hold at the end of the month.
Credit cards
Add a card as an account of type credit card. Enter what you currently owe as a normal number, along with the credit limit, the day the statement closes and the day payment is due.
Put purchases on the card as spending. Paying the card off is a transfer from your bank account to the card, not spending, because the purchases were already counted when you made them. Recording the payment as spending would count the same money twice.
The card shows what you owe, the credit you have left, and how much you have paid this month. A balance you carried in from before you started tracking never appears in Stats.
Categories
Manage your own spending categories in Settings → Categories: up to twenty, each with a colour. Income, Transfer and Other are reserved names.
An item can carry more than one category. A coffee can be both Food and Coffee, and it counts in full in each, while the month’s total counts it once. Spending with no category is shown as Other.
Deleting a category keeps its items; they simply lose that tag.
Stats
Stats shows fifteen months: the past eleven, this one, and the three ahead, with the months to come drawn dashed. Choose all spending or a single category at the top.
Above the chart are this month’s spending compared with last month, your monthly average over the past year, and what the next three months already hold. Below it, a table lists every month by category.
Stats count money going out only. Income and transfers are left out, so a card payment or a salary never shows up as a bar.
The assistant
The assistant answers questions about your items and accounts, and can add, change, move, delete or mark items for you. It uses an AI provider you choose (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Groq) and a key from your own account with that provider, which also means the provider bills you for what you use.
- Create an API key in your provider’s dashboard.
- In Settings → Assistant, choose the provider, paste the key and pick a model. Some Anthropic keys also need a workspace ID, which the same form asks for.
- Open AI Assistant from the menu and ask.
Anything that would change your data is shown to you as a summary first, and happens only when you confirm it. The assistant can read your transfers but cannot create them, and it cannot add or change accounts.
Your key is stored encrypted and never shown back, apart from its last four characters. To stop using the assistant, remove the key in the same settings.
On your phone
Financy works in your phone’s browser, and it can live on your home screen like an app:
- iPhone: open financy.zewify.com in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
- Android: open it in Chrome, open the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
Pages you have opened stay readable without a connection. Adding or changing anything needs one, and the app tells you when you are offline.
Deleting your account
In Settings → Danger zone, enter your password and type DELETE. Your account and everything in it (every item, account, card and assistant conversation) is deleted immediately and permanently. It cannot be undone.
The privacy policy explains what happens to backups and to feedback you have sent.
